Sept 7 - Harborside Inn Demolition Update II

Harborside Inn Demolition Update II

September 7, 2023

Town Officials met today with Manafort Brothers Inc. Demolition Experts to discuss the planning and demolition of the Harborside Inn.

Heavy equipment will begin arriving this afternoon and will be staged in the rear of Harborside. Initially, the amount of equipment and the necessary placement will require restricting a portion of the northbound travel lane on Weldon’s Way. However, two-way traffic will remain for the duration. As more room is created by the demolition process, the equipment can move inside the site and the roadway restrictions will be lifted. It is expected to be in place for one to two weeks.

Water Street is expected to remain open during this process. Pedestrian traffic in front of the Harborside Inn may be restricted as required for safety reasons. During the week (Monday – Friday) a small hose will be run across Water Street and into the site. Vehicles will be able to drive over the hose which will be clearly marked. The hose will be removed at the end of each work day.

The entire demolition process is expected to be completed by the end of September leaving only the foundation. The debris will be completely removed and disposed.  Once the process is complete, the security fence will remain but adjusted to allow for normal traffic and pedestrian flow.

Chapel Street from Weldon’s Way to Water Street will remain closed to traffic for the duration of the project. The sidewalk will remain open to allow for pedestrian traffic and access to the Chapel Street businesses.
