VIN Checks

Effective September 1, 2021, A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) check is required before registering a vehicle in Rhode Island if the title is from another state or the vehicle was registered in another state, and the model year of the vehicle is 2001 or newer.

A VIN Check can be performed at the New Shoreham Police Department for New Shoreham residents and businesses.

To schedule a VIN Check, please complete a New Shoreham VIN Check Request form and attach a copy of the title for the vehicle.  If the lease or lienholder is holding the title, you will still be required to obtain a copy of the title and attach it to this form.

Once your information is received, you will be contacted by the New Shoreham Police Department to either confirm your requested time or to schedule an appointment for your vehicle to be inspected at the police station.  You will be required to have the original title for the vehicle, or a copy of the title if a lienholder is holding the title at the time the vehicle is inspected.
