Beach fires have become a very popular activity on the Island. Permits are issued the day of the fire, and only allowed per the Fire Chief's consent as long as there are permissible weather conditions. They are obtained at the Police Station. Be sure to bring a valid driver's license or picture identification.
The person filling out the permit is responsible for having the fire completely extinguished by Midnight and the removal of all litters and refuses from permit area.
Please note, permits may be rescinded at any time due to adverse weather conditions.
Prohibited Areas
Beach fires are prohibited:
- The National Wildlife Refuge property (Settler's Rock north to Sandy Point, West Beach north to Sandy Point)
- Old Harbor/Town area- Crescent Beach north to Beachhead
- Fred Benson Beach- extending to parking lots
- Within 25 feet of the dunes
