Block Island History
Giovanni de Verrazzano was the first European to note Block Island’s existence in 1524.
The Old Harbor Community Center is located in Old Harbor in the development behind Aldo’s Restaurant.
The North Light has stood for over 150 years performing its duty. The builders of 1867 finally found the appropriate site.
The Town has a three-pronged approach to senior services which includ a part-time Director of Human Services, a part-time Senior Coordinator and a volunteer Senior Advisory Board. Between the staff and the board, activities and services are provided.
The Southeast Light is a lighthouse located on Mohegan Bluffs at the southeast corner of the island. It was designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1997 as one of the most architecturally sophisticated lighthouses built in the United States in the 19th Century.
