Making a Complaint

Complaints about Block Island Taxi, Limousine or Charter Bus service or rates are handled through the Commission on Motor Vehicles for hire (MVFH). A form is available below, which must be mailed to:

The complainant’s name and contact information, Taxi name and name of chauffeur must be provided, as well as details of the complaint. Anonymous complaints cannot be pursued.

If you have a criminal complaint, contact the New Shoreham Police Department on Beach Avenue or at 401-466-3200.

Non Licensed Network Services

Uber, Lyft and other transportation network services are not licensed by the Town.

After Receiving a Complaint

After receiving a complaint, the MVFH will meet in a timely manner to determine whether or not the complaint violates the ordinance or regulations. If, after investigation, the MVFH determines there has been a violation of the ordinance or regulations, a hearing must be scheduled within 30 days. Witnesses and evidence may be presented. At the conclusion of the hearing, the commission will vote to sustain or dismiss the complaint, and may impose a license suspension of up to five days or a penalty per the regulations. The licensee has the right to appeal to the Town Council.
