Our department's mission is to partner with our community to provide quality policing for the protection of life and property, the investigation and prevention of crime and the maintenance of public safety. Everything we do is focused on making our community safer for the people who live, work and visit this special island.
Our roads are narrow, many are unpaved, and most are shared by cars, mopeds, bicycles and pedestrians, so the maximum speed limit is 25 MPH and is strictly enforced. Summer brings seasonal residents and lots of visitors and members of our department are visible throughout the town every day to assist the public.
We want everyone to enjoy their time on Block Island, but please remember alcohol (including closed containers) is prohibited from all beaches and we enforce the state's open container laws in other public places. If you plan to rent a moped during your time here, please read our message to moped renters and educate yourself on our moped ordinances.
Whether you are here for a visit or live on the island year-round, we'll be here if you need us. We appreciate your help as we work to #keepblockislandsafe.
